Mount Holyoke Fitness Center Class Descriptions
Boot Camp
This six-week, advanced level class
is designed to work your entire body while improving and increasing
your overall fitness level. Interval-style classes will
alternate between cardio bursts, strength, and core work.
Modifications are provided, so you can choose your level of
intensity. Great class for both men and women – no
choreography.
Kickboxing
Kickboxing combines martial arts and aerobic moves to
provide you with a fun, heart-pumping fat-burning workout.
Pace yourself or go no-nonsense in this unique class.
Pilates
A full-body mat workout with an emphasis on core strength
and flexibility. Benefits of regular practice include
increased muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, improved
posture, better alignment, enhanced body awareness, and longer,
leaner muscles. Appropriate for all levels of fitness, with
modifications provided for various abilities or injuries.
Spinning
Spinning is a fun, energizing workout while burning
calories. Spinning is easily customized for all levels of
fitness, from a beginner to the avid cyclist. In the group
environment, you will feel more motivated than ever! If you
are new to Spinning, please come 10-15 minutes early for your
personal bike fitting by the instructor.
Step Interval Training (IT)
Step-IT combines high and low impact movement performed
on and off the step platform. This class utilizes the principals of
work and recovery intervals of step aerobics and resistance
training.
Strength Training Circuit
Learn to use the selectorized strength training equipment
in the Fitness Center. Circuit includes instruction to
adjustments on each machine, as well as body weight exercises using
accessory equipment. Intervals of low weight and high
repetitions increase strength and endurance to jump-start
metabolism.
YogaFit
The YogaFit style tightens and tones the entire body,
enhances balance, improves flexibility and builds core strength by
combining traditional fitness training, focused breathing and
strength building through yoga poses. The result is a mind-body
workout that improves health, athletic performance and mental
acuity in people of all ages and fitness levels.
Zumba
Zumba Fitness® is a Latin-inspired
dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music and
contagious steps to form a "fitness-party" that is downright
addictive. All ages and abilities welcome and encouraged to
join, whether you are a seasoned Zumba Fitness® participant or
brand new to the party!
