Mount Holyoke Fitness Center Class Descriptions

Conditioning- One stop body work that combines easy, yet effective cardio routines, interlaced with weights and resistance work. 

YogaFit- Enhances balance, improves flexibility and builds core strength by combining traditional fitness training, focused breathing and strength building through yoga poses. The result is a mind‐body workout that improves health, athletic performance and mental acuity.

Barre Class- This calorie-burning class incorporates principles of ballet, pilates and yoga into one total body workout.  The use of an exercise ball, light weights and ballet barre help sculpt the body and create long lean muscles.  Benefits include better posture, core strength, increased flexibility and overall muscle tone.

Kickboxing- Kickboxing combines martial arts and aerobic moves to provide you with a fun, heart‐pumping fat‐burning workout. Release stress through punches, kicks, and very little choreography. Improve coordination, sharpen reflexes, and increase muscular endurance.

Zumba- This is a fusion of Latin & International music, dance and exercise moves that when put together ~ create a dynamic, exciting and effective workout! ZUMBA® is based on the principle that workouts should be “FUN & EASY TO DO” This class is designed for all ages & all abilities ~ So what are you waiting for? “Ditch the workout and join the party”!

Pilates- A full‐body mat workout with an emphasis on core strength and flexibility. Benefits of regular practice include increased muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, improved posture, better alignment, enhanced body awareness, and longer, leaner muscles.

Ashtanga Yoga-  Traditional Ashtanga Yoga is a flowing style of yoga that builds strength and clears the mind. Clear, strengthen, and flow!

Spinning- A vigorous indoor cycling workout that combines sprints, hills and jumps all in a complete workout. If new to this class, please arrive ten minutes early so you can be fitted for a bike.

SSPAW- High impact training for high-performance athletes. Activities include weight training, speed and agility drills, plyometrics (jump training), and mobility. This class will progress throughout the semester, so it is suggested that students attend regularly. THERE IS A HIGH RISK FOR INJURY IN THIS CLASSRECENT, PREVIOUS ATHLETIC EXPERIENCE IS RECOMMENDED.

 

**Each class in appropriate for all levels of fitness. Modifications will be provided for various abilities.**
