Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Oct. 17th

Mount Holyoke shouldered losses to Coast Guard (3-2 in OT) and Wheaton (3-0) in NEWMAC action. The Lyons (7-7-0; 2-5-0 NEWMAC) are back on the field on Tuesday when they host Springfield at 6pm. MHC closes out the week on Friday afternoon, hosting Elms for Senior Day.

The field hockey team went 1-1 last week, besting Simmons (1-0 in OT) before falling at #8 Babson (3-0). Mount Holyoke (7-5; 3-2 NEWMAC) is back in action on Tuesday, traveling to WPI for a 4:30pm match. The Lyons then travel to Western New England on Thursday for a 7pm contest, before closing out the week on Saturday at 1pm. The Lyons will welcome MIT in that match, which marks Senior Day for the squad's nine graduating seniors.

Mount Holyoke was in action at the 2016 NEWITT Tournament last weekend, seeing a number of solid efforts. Leading the way was the duo of senior captain Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) and sophomore Clara Wang (Madison, Conn.), who advanced to the Tournament Semifinals in the C draw.

The Lyons (7-3; 5-3 NEWMAC), who have now qualified for 13 straight NEWMAC Tournament appearances, are back in action on Wednesday at 3pm. MHC, the fourth-seed, will welcome fifth-seeded Wheaton to the MHC Tennis Courts. The winner advances to the NEWMAC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday at MIT.



The Lyons suffered 3-0 losses to Springfield, Plymouth State and Keene State last week. MHC (3-14; 0-8 NEWMAC) returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Albertus Magnus for a 7pm match. Mount Holyoke will close out the week on Saturday, hosting a tri-match at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons will face Westfield State at 11am, closing out the day against Daniel Webster at 3pm. The neutral match between WSU and DWC will be played at 1pm.

The Lyons took to the course last weekend, competing at the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Wellesley. MHC finished seventh overall at the event, which saw the host Blue claim this year's title. The Lyons are idle next week, but return to action on October 29 when they head to Smith College to compete in the 2016 NEWMAC Championships. Action begins at 12pm.



The Lyons golf team concluded its fall season last weekend, competing at the 2016 NYU Fall Invitational. MHC was outstanding, finishing third overall, paced by first year Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif.) who was sixth overall and first among Liberty League rookies. Mount Holyoke returns to action in April when it opens the spring schedule at the Vassar Invitational.



The Lyons were back in action on Saturday, earning High Point Collegiate honors as the winning team at the Smith College IHSA Show. Junior Emily Holowczak (South Windsor, Conn.) led the way for the Lyons, earning Overall Reserve High Point honors. Mount Holyoke is back in the show ring next Saturday, competing at the UMass IHSA Show.



MHC opened its 2016-17 season last weekend, taking to the water at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta in Worcester. The Lyons saw the varsity eight boat finish 11th of 27 crews, while the novice eight 'A' boat also had a strong effort, placing eighth of 16 boats. The Lyons are idle this week, but are back in the water on October 30 when they travel to Smith to take part in the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship.
