WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Sophie Perekslis (Millerton, N.Y.) scored with 3:34 left in regulation to send Mount Holyoke College to a 3-2 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Wellesley College field hockey on Saturday at the Wellesley Field Complex.

Perekslis' fourth game-winning goal of the season lifts the Lyons record to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in NEWMAC play. Wellesley falls to 5-6 on the year and 2-3 in conference contests.

The Blue held a pair of leads in the contest, going ahead 1-0 in the first when sophomore Mitzi Wiggin (North Hampton, N.H.) scored her first of the year on a penalty stroke at 8:09. The Blue carried the lead into the half, before Perekslis found sophomore Anna Ballou (South Deerfield, Mass.) to knot the score, 1-1, 5:35 after the break.

Wellesley regained the lead on a penalty corner just past the midway point of the second when Carson Dennis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) ripped a shot from the top of the circle that was tipped in by Cecie Negron (Midlothian, Va.) to make the score 2-1 Wellesley at 55:23. After regaining their one-goal edge, the Blue held on to the lead for just over four minutes before the Lyons scored two unanswered goals to rally for the win.

Senior Kaitlin Braz (Tolland, Conn.) started the rally, scoring her third of the year at 59:38 when she tipped in a shot from junior Mirjam Keochakian (Hamburg, Germany) on a penalty corner. Perekslis then put the visitors up for good at 66:26 when she scored her ninth of the year following a Wellesley turnover at 66:26.

Mount Holyoke sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) made four saves to improve to 7-4 on the season. In the Wellesley cage, first year Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) made five saves and is now 2-5 overall.

Both teams return to action with non-conference play on Wednesday, October 11. Wellesley will travel to Connecticut College for a 6:30 PM start and Mount Holyoke will play at Simmons at 6:00 PM.

Field hockey teams from across the NEWMAC took part in the conference's annual Play 4 The Cure Day on Saturday.
