Weston, Mass. - October 17, 2019 - Behind matching five-point performances from juniors Mirei Golding-Powers (San Francisco, Calif.) and Laurissa Montigny (Enfield, Conn.), the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated Regis College in non-conference play, 6-2, at Regis Stadium.
With the win, the Lyons are now 6-8 on the year while the Pride falls to 3-10 with the setback. In net, Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) played 48:20 and made two saves in her sixth win of the year, while Maddie Miller (Marblehead, Mass.) came on for the final 11:40 and posted one save.
Mount Holyoke College held a 29-7 shot advantage over 60 minutes of play, while the Lyons were also awarded 14 penalty corners compared to the Pride's eight.
It took just 53 seconds for the Lyons to get on the board as Montigny set up Golding-Powers for her first goal of the game, but with 2:15 to play in the opening quarter, Regis tied it up at one with a strike from Sheridan Biaha (Waltham, Mass.).
Just 4:20 into the second quarter, Montigny picked up her first strike of the game, which was unassisted to give the Lyons a 2-1 advantage, before Kass Lawrence (Holyoke, Mass.) found the back of the net just 57 seconds later to make it 3-1, Mount Holyoke College.
With 7:00 on the clock, Golding-Powers beat the Regis goalkeeper for her second of the game and eighth goal of the season, giving the Lyons a 4-1 lead at the halftime break.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Pride pulled to within two as Joslyn O'Brien (Petersham, Mass.) found the back of the net with 13:00 to play, but just 28 seconds later, Montigny pushed Mount Holyoke College's lead back to three with her second of the game and third of the season to make it 5-2 with 12:32 on the clock.
Just 52 seconds after that, the Lyons pushed their lead to four as Kylie Brooks (Oceanside, Calif.) scored a goal that was set up by Golding-Powers, sealing the win for Mount Holyoke College.
Up next, the Lyons will return home on Saturday, October 19 and will host Wheaton at 12 p.m.
