Athletic Community Gathers for Inaugural Lyons Bowl
The Mount Holyoke athletics community came together for its inaugural flag football game on Sunday. The 40-minute Lyons Bowl took place behind Creighton Hall at 1:30 p.m. and was the product of a collaboration between the College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Club Sports Council.

Seniors Honored at Scholar Athlete Reception
Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration last night, 27 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 12 teams were honored as part of the College's third annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

Awards Handed Out at Annual Athletics Banquet
The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Track and Field team member Miriam Larson-Koester earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

Five Mount Holyoke student-athletes were honored at the annual Celebration of Student Leadership and Academic Excellence last Tuesday. During the campus wide event, students and recent graduates were recognized for their leadership as demonstrated through academic excellence, community service and outstanding accomplishment.

Hundreds of Mount Holyoke athletes gathered on Skinner Green Tuesday afternoon for a flash mob to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day. Members of both varsity and club sports participated in the event, which was designed to showcase the unity that exists among athletes across campus.

Mount Holyoke will be joining up with the NCAA to celebrate its inaugural Division III Week from April 9-15. Around the nation, schools and conferences have joined the effort to highlight the academic and athletic accomplishments of student-athletes, as well as their leadership, community service and campus involvement.

NEWMAC Welcomes Emerson College as 11th Member
The NEWMAC Presidents’ Council announced today the addition of Emerson College as the conference’s 11th member, marking the first expansion of conference membership in 14 years. Emerson will join the NEWMAC for the 2013-14 academic year.

ESPN to Feature Mount Holyoke Professor Martha Ackmann
Gender Studies lecturer and author Martha Ackmann was recently filmed by ESPN to discuss her book Curveball. The narrative nonfiction piece describes the life of Toni Stone, the first female to play professional baseball in the Negro League.

Mount Holyoke Named a 2012 Best Value College
Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2012" on February 7. The list features 150 schools in all - 75 private and 75 public colleges and universities.

Tennis Team Head Coach Aldo Santiago Named Posse 3 Mentor
Longtime tennis team head coach Aldo Santiago was recently selected to serve as mentor for Mount Holyoke's third class of Posse Foundation scholars. Mount Holyoke began partnering with the Posse Foundation to admit students from high schools in Miami three years ago. This year's group of 10 will begin taking classes in September.

President Pasquerella Tosses First Pitch at Red Sox Game
Mount Holyoke President Lynn Pasquerella threw out the first pitch of the game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays on July 7 at Fenway Park. She was joined by former crew team captain Emily Carol, who graduated in May.

Mount Holyoke juniors Tricia Chase and Christine Chancy recently attended the NCAA Winning Careers in Athletics Forum at the Hall of Champions in Indianapolis, Indiana. The program was held from April 5-6 in conjunction with the Women’s Division I Basketball Championship.

Weight Room Receives a Facelift
Mount Holyoke is pleased to announce that final renovations to the weight room in the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex were recently completed. Branded The Lyons Den, the facility will allow student-athletes to better prepare for competition and rehabilitate injuries throughout the year. It will be open to physical education classes, varsity teams and competitive club sport teams.

Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. Her appearance will highlight the College’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration.
