SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 31, 2011) – Junior basketball player Tricia Chase has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of January 24-30 after racking up 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week. The forward converted 46.2% (18-39) of her shots from the field and chipped in with four assists. Fifteen of her rebounds came at the offensive end of the floor.
Chase posted a double-double on 10 points and 10 boards in Mount Holyoke's thrilling 48-46 overtime triumph over Wellesley College on Saturday. After sending the contest to overtime with a layup in the final minute of regulation, she sealed the win with a short jumper in the lane at the end of regulation.
The forward was also outstanding in her team's 67-50 win over Johnson and Wales University on Monday. In addition to posting a career best 18 points, she hauled in 13 rebounds. She added 12 points in a 52-40 setback at Springfield College on Wednesday.
Chase has reached double digits in the scoring column in four straight games. She now has three double-doubles this season and four in her career. The junior has started all 18 games for the Lyons and has averaged 8.6 points and a team best 6.8 rebounds per outing.
Over the course of her career, Chase has recorded 6.5 points and 5.5 boards per game.
Mount Holyoke (5-13, 3-9 NEWMAC) is slated to visit longtime rival Smith College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
