Markell Picks Up "Lyon of the Week" Accolades
Senior lacrosse team member Perry Markell has been named “Lyon of the Week” for the week of March 15-21. The midfielder racked up nine points on seven goals and two assists in a 2-1 week for Mount Holyoke. She amassed 31 draw controls, eight ground balls and five caused turnovers over the span.
After posting a hat trick in her team's 20-5 triumph over Norwich University on Monday, she found the net three more times in their thrilling 17-15 victory over Keene State College on Wednesday. Her 16 draw controls in the contest were a program record. Markell added one goal and one assist in the Lyons 14-6 setback to Ithaca College on Thursday. All three contests were part of the annual SpringFling in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Markell has made an immediate impact on the Mount Holyoke program after transferring from Elmira College. Through the Lyons first five games, she has amassed 14 goals and three assists. Her 43 draw controls, 12 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers are all good for tops on the squad.
