Young Named to IWLCA All-Region Team

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (May 21, 2011) – For the second year in a row, Mount Holyoke College senior Bianca Young has been named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team as a result of her outstanding play on the defensive end of the field.

The IWLCA honored 224 Division III players from around the nation. Thirty-two recipients were selected to represent the Berkshire Region. Each of the honorees is now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 31.

Young anchored Mount Holyoke's defense, piling up team highs of 28 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. In addition to scoring goals against Concordia University (3/15) and Eastern Connecticut State University (3/30), the captain also chipped in with an assist against Smith College (4/12). Her five caused turnovers against Springfield College were a career high (4/23). The defender was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team earlier this month.

Over the course of her career, Young collected 101 ground balls and 73 caused turnovers while starting all 63 games for the Lyons. Young also scored three times, dished out three assists and pulled in 25 draw controls.

She was at her best during her junior season, when she helped Mount Holyoke reach the championship game of the ECAC Tournament. At the conclusion of the year, she was selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team and the IWLCA All-Region Second Team. She was a NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team honoree in each of her final three seasons.

Mount Holyoke closed out its 2011 campaign with an overall record of 5-9 and a league mark of 2-4.
