NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Feb. 5, 2011) – For the fifth consecutive season, the Mount Holyoke College women's squash team grabbed top honors at the Seven Sisters Championship. After racing to a 9-0 victory over Smith College in the semifinals, the Lyons blanked Vassar College 9-0 in the championship. This year's tournament took place at the Smith Squash Courts.
In its semifinal match, Mount Holyoke cruised to a 9-0 victory over Smith. It was the Lyons' ninth straight win over the Pioneers and their second this season. First year Randima Ranaweera, senior Vidushi Gurunada, junior Shara Robertson, first year Shaheen Madraswala, junior Paulina Rojek, first year Elyse Taylor, junior Sarah Moore and first year Julianna Dahbura each posted shutouts.
The title match pitted Mount Holyoke and Vassar for the sixth year in a row. Once again, the Lyons prevailed in convincing fashion, winning by a score of 9-0. From top to bottom, their lineup featured Ranaweera, Gurunada, Robertson, Madraswala, sophomore Tempest Bowden, first year Katrina Intal, sophomore Kathryn Brummer, junior Marie Ozanne and Rojek. All nine players prevailed 3-0.
Robertson and Madraswala represented Mount Holyoke on the All-Tournament Team. They were joined by Rosemary O'Connor, and Emma Haley of Wellesley College, Liz Guyman and Helen Queenan of Smith and Libby Pei and Kristine Bell of Vassar.
The Lyons (13-8) will return to action on Friday, when they host Amherst College for a pivotal contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
