SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Dec. 6, 2011) – Sophomore Shaheen Madraswala has been named Lyon of the Week for the week of November 28 - December 4 after leading the squash team to a 3-1 record at the Wesleyan University Round Robin over the weekend. Madraswala posted a perfect 4-0 record, dropping just one game in the process. She spent the majority of her time in the number three position.
The sophomore was at her best on Saturday, when she picked up a 3-1 victory over Brown University's Mina Shakarshy. After splitting the first two games, she took the next two to seal things. Mount Holyoke came up just short in the match, falling 6-3. The Lyons then rebounded with convincing victories over William Smith College, Smith College and Colgate University. Madraswala was dominant in all three contests. After defeating William Smith's Ginny McDermott 3-0 Saturday night, she added 3-0 triumphs over Smith's Joanne Poon and Colgate's Courtney Burke on Sunday.
Madraswala has gone 6-2 thus far this season and owns a career record of 25-7. She is currently ranked among the top 100 players in the nation.
As a team, Mount Holyoke has rolled to three straight wins to cement its position among the nation's top teams. The Lyons are currently ranked 13th in the country with a 5-3 mark. They are slated to host Wesleyan on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
