First year Martina Kneifel has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of September 6-12 after pushing the volleyball team to a perfect 3-0 record. The outside hitter was dominant in her first week in a Mount Holyoke uniform, racking up 3.83 kills and 3.17 digs per set. She recorded nine service aces and a hitting percentage of .442.
Kneifel made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut on Thursday, when she amassed 13 kills, 10 digs and four aces in a 3-0 win over Bay Path College. The rookie followed that with 10 kills, nine digs and five aces in the Lyons 3-0 triumph over St. Joseph College on Saturday. Later that day, she piled up 11 kills and 21 digs in her team's thrilling 3-2 victory over Daniel Webster College. In addition to earning Lyon of the Wee accolades, Kneifel was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week. Mount Holyoke (3-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) is slated to kick off its NEWMAC schedule tomorrow at MIT beginning at 7:00 p.m.
