2009 Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 17, 2009) – The Wellesley College women’s cross country team grabbed first place at the 28th annual Seven Sisters Championship today at Mount Holyoke College. Five runners finished in the top ten overall for the Blue, who captured their championship best eighth team title.
Wellesley tallied 33 points en route to their first championship since the 2005 season. The Blue were followed by Vassar College (54), Swarthmore College (56), Smith College (90), Bryn Mawr College (154) and Mount Holyoke (157).
Sophomore Johanna Spangler of Vassar raced to the individual title, completing the 5,000 meter course in 18:44.00. She was followed by Smith senior Christine Dzialo (18:56) and Wellesley first year Randelle Boots (18:57), who earned second and third place finishes, respectively.
The host Lyons were paced by sophomore Holly Valenzuela, who grabbed 32nd place with a time of 20:51. Junior Hannah DiCocco crossed the line in 21:04 to secure 35th place overall. A total of 84 runners participated.
Mount Holyoke will return to action on Saturday, October 31 at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship. The event will take place at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts beginning at noon.
