SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (March 24, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's tennis team breezed to a 9-0 victory over American International College this evening at the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex Field House. It was the Lyons' first win of the spring and their fourth of the 2010-11 campaign. The Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2 on the year.
Mount Holyoke dropped just seven games in the match. The Lyons got things going with a pair of doubles wins. Senior Natalie Hsiang and sophomore Nahrhee Han combined for an 8-1 triumph at the number one spot, while junior Sarah Moore and first year AnnElizabeth Konkel won by a score of 8-0 in their number two tilt.
The hosts proceeded to win all five of the singles matches in straight sets. From top to bottom, their lineup featured first year Maya Sayarath, first year Eman Malik, junior Heather Richardson, first year Kelsey Brower and sophomore Kirsten Schneider.
American International forfeited the number three doubles and number six singles matches.
Mount Holyoke is slated to host an alumnae event on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The gathering is open to all former players. Regular season play will resume on Saturday, April 2, when the Lyons entertain RPI at 10:00 a.m. American International is slated to visit the University of New Haven this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
