SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College tennis team placed the maximum number of four student-athletes on the 2024 Academic All-District Division III Women's Tennis Team, announced Tuesday by College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA).

Junior captain Annika Chai (London, England), sophomore Kirat Kaur (Chandigarh, India), sophomore captain Cal Smith (Bridgewater, Mass.), and sophomore Kate Vavra (Weston, Mass.) were selected from the Lyons for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Chai, an economics and mathematics double-major, played No. 1 singles and teamed with Kaur as the Lyons' No. 1 doubles team. Kaur, a politics major, won Second Team All-NEWMAC honors as the Lyons' No. 2 singles player.

Smith, a computer science major, played No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Lyons, while Vavra, a double-major in international relations and French, played fifth singles and third doubles.

Along with their three teammates -- first-year Rachel Allen (Mary Esther, Fla.), sophomore Kennedy Bagley-Fortner (Montclair, N.J.), and sophomore Natali Kostadinovic (Pirot, Serbia) -- the Lyons won the Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics' top team GPA award this year while finishing in fifth place in the NEWMAC to go with an 11-8 overall record.
