SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke field hockey program announced Wednesday the hiring of current University of New Haven assistant Hallie Reiger, who will bring particular expertise in goalkeeping to the Lyons program when she begins on July 1.
"We are delighted to welcome Hallie Reiger to our coaching staff," said 29th-year head coach Andy Whitcomb. "Our players immediately felt a special connection with her, and they're very excited to have Coach Hallie join the MHC field hockey family."
Reiger has been the assistant coach at New Haven since 2024, helping the head coach in all aspects of the program including leading film scouting sessions, mentoring student-athletes for academic and athletic success, and recruiting at various national and regional tournaments. She is deeply involved in the field hockey community, including working with developing athletes as a USA Nexus Coach this year. Reiger earned a master's degree in business administration at New Haven, in addition to a sports management graduate certificate.
"Her impressive goalkeeping resume as a player and coach, coupled with her extensive experience at Nexus events truly made her stand out," said Whitcomb. "Both athletes and fellow coaches have praised her deep knowledge of goaltending and her dedication to the game of hockey. She has also proven to be a solid recruiter, and she genuinely cares about helping players improve both on the field and in life."
Reiger joined the inaugural field hockey program as a first-year student at Allegheny College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in history and education in 2023. She served as team captain in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and started in every game of her career, earning North Coast Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2022.
"I am very excited to join the field hockey program at Mount Holyoke," said Reiger. "After visiting campus and talking with everyone I could see how excited the team was for the fall, and I knew I wanted to be a part of that. Getting the opportunity to work with and learn from Coach Whitcomb is amazing and something I'm looking forward to.
"I went to a liberal arts college and to be back around that atmosphere is really nice. The campus is amazing, and the team cares about both academics and athletics. I'm really looking forward to working with the team, especially the goalies, and trying to compete for a NEWMAC conference championship."
