Northborough, Mass. - July 28, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team was recently recognized for their continued commitment to both academics and athletics, as the Lyons received Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad recognition following the 2020-21 academic year. Additionally, six student-athletes landed on the IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll.

Mount Holyoke College was one of six institutions within the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to collect the IWLCA Academic Honor Squad accolade, as the IWLCA named 319 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Academic Honor Squads for the 2020-21 academic year. Additionally, this marks the 12th time in program history that the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team has been named an Academic Honor Squad, which is every year that the award has been recognized at season's end.

To qualify for this prestigious honor, the lacrosse team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Six Lyons were also named to the IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll, including Abby Baldwin (Florence, Mass.), Chelsea Braz (Coventry, Conn.), Allie Brown (Burlington, Vt.), Kelly Hammond (Hartland, Vt.), Emma Legacki (Pennington, N.J.) and Meryl Phair (Stockbridge, Mass.). 

The Lyons' six student-athletes was a program-best mark and recognized matched Wellesley for the second most within the NEWMAC, as the IWLCA honored 918 student-athletes from 189 different institutions on the 2021 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
