SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Springfield College returned to its winning ways with a convincing 19-3 victory over the Mount Holyoke lacrosse team in both teams' regular-season finale on Wednesday night, ending the Lyons' season while securing third place in the final conference standings for the hosts.

Mount Holyoke (4-12, 2-8 NEWMAC) finishes the season with its most wins and conference wins since 2019.

With its victory, Springfield (13-3, 8-2 NEWMAC) clinched a home playoff game when the NEWMAC Tournament begins Saturday, and snapped a two-game losing streak against the conference's top two teams, MIT and Babson.

Springfield scored the first 16 goals of the game, holding Mount Holyoke scoreless until junior Emi Bisson's (Chester, Conn.) goal midway through the third quarter. The host Pride blitzed the Lyons with two goals in the opening minute, six in the first 5:07, and had a 10-0 lead with 4:12 still remaining in the first quarter.

The game settled in the second half, with Mount Holyoke tying Springfield 3-3 over the final 30 minutes of play. First-years Josie McFadden (Edmonton, Alberta) and Juliana Spaulding (Wakefield, Mass.) both scored unassisted in the final six minutes of the game, giving Spaulding her team-high 40th goal of the season.

McFadden also caused a game-high three turnovers, and entered the game as one of the conference leaders in that category.
