SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Recent Mount Holyoke College graduate Emma Waldron was added Second Team Academic All-America honors to their list of prestigious athletic and academic honors on Tuesday, as College Sports Communicators announced the Division III Women's At-Large Academic All-America teams.
In June, Waldron (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named a Division III Second Team All-American by the College Rowing Coaches Association, becoming the Lyons' rowing program's first All-American since 2011. Waldron was also named Mount Holyoke's nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Waldron joined 17 other student-athletes on the Division III All-America team. Cleo Schneider '11 was the last Lyon to receive All-America honors in rowing. Mount Holyoke's last previous All-American in any sport was diver Kathryn Murphy in 2022.
Waldron is one of 17 Second Team Academic All-Americans, joining MIT field hockey's Paige Forester and Springfield gymnast Sophia LeBlanc as one of three honorees from the NEWMAC. They are also one of two rowing student-athletes on CSC's list of 51 Division III At-Large Academic All-Americans.
A double-major in environmental science and biology, Waldron graduated with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average, and received a Fulbright research grant in May to continue their biology senior thesis work in Sweden. Waldron is a team ergometer record holder in several distances and a three-year team captain for the Lyons.
Of the 47 student-athletes on the Division III at-large teams, 15 finished with a 4.00 cumulative GPA. The 16 first team members had a cumulative 3.96 GPA.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division III Academic All-America® program.
