BOSTON -- Mount Holyoke senior Hannah Keochakian scored the go-ahead goal in the second half, but Wentworth Institute's Jenny Montville evened the score in the 87th minute, and the Lyons settled for a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field.
Mount Holyoke (2-0-1) and Wentworth (1-2-1) played an even game, with the host Leopards getting one more shot on goal (7-6) than the Lyons.
But Mount Holyoke put itself in position to win in the 50th minute, when Keochakian (Amherst, Mass.) knocked in the rebound off the crossbar, following sophomore Sage Hudson's (Washington, D.C.) shot that caromed off the crossbar. The goal was the 13th of Keochakian's career.
The Lyons held the Leopards without a shot on goal for the ensuing 37 minutes of action with the 1-0 lead. But with 3:16 remaining, the Leopards put the tying marker up, as a seemingly harmless entry ball into the penalty area was converged upon by the Lyons keeper and a defender and came loose, giving an alert Montville a sudden and unexpectedly wide open goal to score into.
Mount Holyoke sophomore Emma Zoubok (Somers, N.Y.) debuted as a collegian and made five saves in the near shutout. The Lyons also registered a team save to stop a header by Montville in the 75th minute. Wentworth's Shyla Kulesza also made five saves and allowed one goal.
Mount Holyoke will host Endicott College next Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1pm.
