Track & Field Finishes Well at New England Division III Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was two days of solid performances for the Mount Holyoke College track & field team, which was in action at the 2015 New England Division III Championships, hosted by MIT. The Lyons finished 28th overall in the meet, which was won by the host Engineers.

Friday's action saw senior Dana Fry (Tempe, Ariz./Miss Porter's School) and first year Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) both post personal bests in the 10,000-meter event. Fry finished sixth overall, crossing the line with a time of 37:56.14. That time also qualified her for the 2015 ECAC Championships in two weeks. Barnes placed 11th with a time of 40:26.82.

Saturday once again saw an outstanding effort from Fry, who competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, just hours after her grueling run in the 10,000-meter event. In the steeple, she posted a time of 11:55.87, which was good for 12th overall.

Senior Amber Legare (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) posted a career-best on Saturday in the shot put, finishing 16th overall with a throw of 10.88 meters. She then ran the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter relay team, which placed 18th with a time of 53.33.

In addition to Legare, the other members of the foursome included first year Shante Henderson (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Theatre Arts School), senior Sarah Fleming (Elk Grove, Calif./Sacramento Country Day School) and first year Maria Lewis (Boston, Mass./Fenway).

Next up for the Lyons is the Open New England Championships, which will once again take place at MIT next weekend. MHC's lone qualifier for that meet is junior Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago), who will compete in the preliminary trials of the 100-meter dash on Friday at 3pm.
