Herring paces Lyons as cross country opens at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College cross country team kicked off the fall 2025 season by taking third place among four teams racing at the Wellesley Invitational, held Friday evening at Nehoiden Golf Course.

Sophomore Katherine Herring (Lebanon, N.H.) led the Lyons for the first time in her career with a 14th-place finish out of 40 competitors, covering the 5-kilometer course in 20:28.0.

Senior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) followed in 17th place (20:41.3), with senior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) placing 21st (21:17.6).

Junior Anita Konopka (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) ran fourth for Mount Holyoke in 21:39.8, and sophomore Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) was fifth in her cross country debut, finishing 24th overall in 21:40.7.

Finishing as Mount Holyoke's scoring displacers, first-year Nina Kuzichev (Washington, D.C.) finished 28th in 22:05.0, and junior Elsa May (Lyme, N.H.) placed 30th in her Lyons debut.

With 82 points, Mount Holyoke finished ahead of Simmons (120) and behind Wellesley (20) and Brandeis (38).

The Lyons return to competition at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.
