DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College cross country team took 22nd place out of 36 teams, and 10th place among Division III teams in the varsity race Saturday at the 52nd all-divisions UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
The Lyons outraced 12 Division III teams in the 6K varsity race, with none of its top five runners coming from the squad that ran in the meet's varsity race a year ago.
Sophomore Katherine Herring (Lebanon, N.H.) led the Lyons for the second time in as many races this season, placing 126th overall out of 275 runners with a time of 24:26.8.
Senior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) finished second for Mount Holyoke in 24:44.6 and 137th place overall. Rounding out the Lyons' scoring were sophomore Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) in 164th (25:15.7), first-year Nina Kuzichev (Washington, D.C.) in 172nd (25:28.7), and junior Anita Konopka (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) in 173rd (25:30.6), with senior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) the scoring displacer in 191st place (26:00.5).
Boston University took first place with 35 points, with Connecticut College the top Division III team in fourth place overall with 157 points. Mount Holyoke scored 667 points, ahead of such competition as Bentley, Assumption, Hartford and Emerson.
Mount Holyoke also competed in the 5K JV race, placing 16th out of 22 teams, and sixth among Division III squads.
Senior Tess Marini-Rapoport (Northampton, Mass.) paced the Lyons in the JV race with a 96th-place finish out of 169 runners in a time of 27:29.0. She was followed by sophomore Bridget Hughes (Easton, Mass.) in 99th place (27:42.1), first-year Elodie Muller (Byfield, Mass.) in 101st place (27:44.6), junior Quinn Gilman (Honolulu, Hawaii) in 106th place (27:57.9), and first-year Marin Lambert (Bothell, Wash.) in 115th (28:36.1).
The Lyons will race at the Keene State Invitational in Keene, N.H., on Oct. 4 at 12pm.
