MILL SPRING, N.C. -- Mount Holyoke College is one of 16 hunt seat riding teams vying for a national championship this weekend, as the 56th annual Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Nationals get under way Friday at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.
Friday's competition for MHC comprises senior Kate Smith (Wells, Vt.) competing in the Limit Team Flat class, the final class of the day.
The Lyons compete in four team classes and one individual class on Saturday:
- Sophomore Carly Bitler (Seymour, Ill.) will be in the first class of the day on Saturday, Intermediate fences over fences.
- First-year Emi Graf (Belmont, Mass.) is in the second class of the day on Saturday for the Limit team over fences.
- In the sixth class, senior Megan Bliamptis (Lexington, Mass.) competes in Individual Intro/Walk-Trot
- In Saturday's seventh class, Team Intro/Walk-Trot, senior Zhuohen Shen (Shanghai, China) rides for Mount Holyoke.
- In the eighth and final class of the day, Team Novice, first-year Bessie Huggins (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) competes.
Mount Holyoke competes in three classes on Sunday:
- First class - Team Open over Fences - senior Camille Cheng (Goleta, Calif.).
- Third class - Team Intermediate Flat - first-year Alyssa Martinsen (Arlington Heights, Ill.)
- Fourth class - Team Open Flat - junior Lili Evans (Groton, Mass.).
