NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Dec. 1, 2012) - Paced by a school record performance from first year Camille Coklow, the Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field team kicked off its 2012-13 slate at the non-scoring Smith College Winter Classic on Saturday.
Coklow (pictured left) had an outstanding effort in the 60-meter dash, eclipsing the school record during the preliminary trials with a time of 8.06. That mark also qualified her for the New England Division III Championship, as well as the ECAC Championship. She ended up finishing second overall in the event with a time of 8.13.
Senior Maddie Ballon also had a solid effort on the day, finishing third overall in the pole vault with a mark of 2.45 meters (8-00.50). Additionally, she and Coklow, along with junior Amelia Tang and sophomore Nina Marciano, paced the 4x200-meter relay team to fifth overall with a time of 1:52.88.
In the 400-meter dash, senior Jenna Slipke finished fifth overall with a time of 1:06.91, while Tang and Ballon were sixth (1:07.13) and seventh (1:08.53), respectively. Marciano finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.84, while sophomore Jennie Ochterski was also fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 10.97 meters (36-00.00).
Rounding out the day's effort was sophomore Dana Fry, who crossed the line first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:05.70.
The Lyons are scheduled to take part in the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday, January 21 at noon.
