SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Sophomore Linnea Alsted scored two goals and senior Jayonna Montigny tied a team record with four assists as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated UMaine-Farmington 5-0 on Saturday afternoon, giving the Lyons their first victory of the young season.

Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) helped the Lyons score their final four goals of the game, thereby tying the team record of four assists in a game with Anne Doton from 2008 and Sarah LaQuerre from 2015.

Sophomore Ashley Scott (South Hadley, Mass.) led off the scoring, getting a well-place feed from sophomore Scout Climie (Guilford, Conn.) and finishing a 2-on-1 in the fourth minute of the game for her second career goal.

Alsted scored her second goal of the season in the sixth minute to make it 2-0, banging in a shot from the right wing on a penalty corner, assisted by Montigny on the insertion.

Alsted scored again with 8:55 left in the half, lofting a scoop shot over UMF goalie Ella Grant's reach from the left wing on a penalty corner, after the ball was inserted by Montigny and stopped by sophomore Emily Bisson (Manchester, N.H.).

After taking a 3-0 lead into halftime, the Lyons struck again six minutes into the third quarter, as Montigny hit a cross into the air from close range, and from in front of the goal sophomore Diane Lee (Boston, Mass.) alertly got her stick on the ball for the deflection into the back of the cage, for her first career goal.

Mount Holyoke added a fifth goal before the end of the third quarter, as Montigny tapped the ball toward sophomore Mackenzie Hillman (Newington, Conn.), and Hillman turned and cracked the ball into the goal for her second career goal.

The Lyons outshot the Beavers by a 36-7 margin.

Grant made 12 saves in goal for UMF. For Mount Holyoke, three goalies combined on the shuout: senior Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) tended goal for the first half and made one save. Junior Ainsley Gruener (Topsfield, Mass.) played the third quarter and first-year Julia Merriam (Ardmore, Pa.) kept goal in the fourth quarter, making one save.

Mount Holyoke will host Manhattanville College on Tuesday at 6pm. UMF will play at Dean College on Sunday at 11am.
