WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team scored two game-tying goals in the opening 11 minutes of its game at Clark University on Saturday, but the host Cougars held on to their third lead of the game for a 3-2 NEWMAC victory.

Following a 2-2 score after one quarter of play, Clark (5-5, 1-2 NEWMAC) got a go-ahead goal from Morgan Brown with 3:01 left in the half and held off the Lyons (6-5, 0-3 NEWMAC) through a scoreless second half.

Clark took a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game with a goal by Greer McCarty, who tipped in a shot by Ciaran Cubbage on a Cougars penalty corner.

But the Lyons evened the game three minutes later. Sophomore Scout Climie (Guilford, Conn.) made a move to the right baseline and sent an entry pass to sophomore Diane Lee (Boston, Mass.) at the near post. Lee took the pass and squeezed the ball past Clark goalie Loren Root for her fifth goal of the season.

Clark responded only a minute later after earning another penalty corner, with Alison Kopec feeding Rachael Romain for a 2-1 Cougars lead.

Mount Holyoke evened the score again with 4:32 remaining in the first quarter, with senior Sophia Guziewicz (Claremont, N.H.) knocking in a short pass from Lee after an initial shot by the Lyons on a penalty corner. Guziewicz's goal was her team-high seventh of the season and the 13th of her career.

Brown netted the game-winning goal, putting in the rebound on another Cougars penalty corner.

Mount Holyoke had a 20-16 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in penalty corners for the game.

Root made 10 saves for Clark, while senior Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) made nine stops for the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke will play a NEWMAC game at Springfield on Tuesday at 5pm.
