BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team's season finale at No. 7 nationally ranked Babson College stood in contrast with the joy of their past game, as the host Beavers defeated the Lyons 8-0 to end their season with a perfect NEWMAC record of 9-0.
Jessica Evans had two goals and two assists, and Caroline DiGiovanni added two goals for the Beavers (16-3, 9-0 NEWMAC), the top seed in this week's conference playoffs.
Mount Holyoke finished 8-11 overall and 0-9 in conference play in an exciting season that included head coach Andy Whitcomb winning her 300th career game (including 281 with Mount Holyoke) on Tuesday against Rivier University.
The Lyons' 40 goals were their most since 2019, with five players tallying 13 or more points, headlined by senior Sophia Guziewicz's (Claremont, N.H.) remarkable 13-goal campaign, three more than any Lyon had scored since 2013. Sophomore Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.) had 20 points, senior Jayonna Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) had 18 points, sophomore Scout Climie (Guilford, Conn.) had 16 points and sophomore Diane Lee (Boston, Mass.) had 13.
Montigny will graduate with 17 goals, 11 assists and 45 career points in three seasons as a Lyon. Guziewicz finishes her career with 19 goals and three assists for 41 points. Senior Gracie Wilkinson (Amherst, Mass.) finished with eight career points, and senior defender Glenna Ricard (Windsor, Vt.) played in her ninth career game. Senior captain Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) finishes her career with an impressive 67 appearances, 65 starts, 493 saves, six shutouts and 23 victories in goal for Mount Holyoke.
