Riding Claims High Point Honors at Home ShowTeam and Individual Results
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 25, 2008) - The Mount Holyoke College riding team earned the High Point Championship at its fall home show on Saturday. It was the second time in a row that the Lyons grabbed top honors. They will enter their final show of the fall with a five point lead over the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the Zone 1, Region 3 standings.
Mount Holyoke piled up 41 points on the day to secure the title. The Lyons narrowly edged out the University of Massachusetts, which finished with 40 points. Smith College and Williams College finished in deadlock for third place with 25 points. Rounding out the 12 team field were Becker College (22), the College of the Holy Cross (20), Westfield State College (16), Amherst College (14), Hampshire College (10), Landmark College (4), Springfield College (3) and Clark University (0).
At the end of the event, four Mount Holyoke riders were featured in the ride off - senior Cassie Herman, junior Lora Ciborowski, junior Tracey Mack and first year Margaret Swanson. Kate Lawrence of the University of Massachusetts claimed High Point Rider accolades, while Herman earned Reserve High Point Rider recognition. Ciborowski ended the day with 14 points and was named High Point Intermediate Rider. Angela Bernier was the Novice High Point Rider.
The Lyons racked up 15 blue ribbons overall. Mack and Herman came away with two apiece, as they each won their sections of the open fences division and later took top honors in their sections of the open flat division. Ciborowski nabbed top honors in both the intermediate fences and the intermediate flat. Meanwhile, Swanson chipped in with first place finishes in her classes of the novice fences division and the intermediate flat division.
In the walk-trot division, sophomores Leelawan Kaewsawang and Bridget Brady earned blue ribbons. Junior Meredith Feinberg came out on top in the intermediate flat division, while sophomore Allison Wood produced a first place result in the beginner walk-trot-canter division. Junior Emily Coler, along with sophomore Kathryn Viechnicki and Mackenzie Cameron added blue ribbons in the novice flat division.
Mount Holyoke will round out its fall slate on Saturday, November 8 at the Amherst College Intercollegiate Horse Show.
