Riding Breezes to Victory at Amherst ShowTeam and Individual Results
AMHERST, Mass. (Nov. 8, 2008) - The Mount Holyoke College riding team closed out its fall schedule with a High Point Championship at today's Amherst College Intercollegiate Horse Show, hosted by Biscuit Hill Farm. It was the third time in a row that the Lyons grabbed top honors.
Mount Holyoke amassed a near perfect score of 47 points en route to the title. The University of Massachusetts took Reserve High Point honors with 28 points, while Becker College and Smith College tallied 27 points apiece to tie for third place. Rounding out the field were the College of the Holy Cross (26), Westfield State College (24), Amherst College (22), Williams College (20), Hampshire College (12), Landmark College (12), Springfield College (12) and Clark University (11).
As a result of its convincing victory today, Mount Holyoke was able to extend its cushion in the Zone 1, Region 3 overall standings. The Lyons will enter the spring portion of their slate leading the University of Massachusetts by 24 points.
Leading the way for Mount Holyoke were first year Margaret Swanson and senior Amanda Pettengill. Swanson grabbed High Point Rider honors after earning blue ribbons in her classes of novice fences and intermediate flat divisions. Meanwhile, Pettengill collected Reserve High Point Rider accolades after taking first place in the open fences and second place in the open flat.
Out of a possible 18 blue ribbons, Mount Holyoke riders claimed 12. In addition to Swanson and Pettengill, senior Cassie Herman, junior Lora Ciborowski, junior Tracey Mack, junior Meredith Feinberg, sophomore Kathryn Viechnicki, first year Anne Tucker, first year Jasmine Haddad, sophomore Bridget Brady and junior Emily Coler each claimed victories in their respective divisions.
The Lyons will travel to Lake Erie College in Ohio to compete in the Holiday Tournament of Champions from December 5-7.
