Babson Blanks Field Hockey, 3-0
BABSON PARK, Mass. (Oct. 18, 2008) - Sophomore Sarah Fredlund scored two goals, as the Babson College women's field hockey team blanked visiting Mount Holyoke College 3-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action this afternoon at McDowell Field.
Fredlund put the Beavers on the board midway through the first half, when she tipped a hit from sophomore Colleen Kelly into the upper left corner. Lyons first year goalkeeper Katie Gibson made a valiant effort to deflect the shot, but the ball tipped off her arm pad and into the cage at the 17:25 mark.
Junior Jess Paladino made it 2-0 less than six minutes into the second half with her ninth goal of the season. After Kelly's shot from the right side of the goal mouth was saved by Gibson, the forward knocked home the rebound in the 41st minute. Paladino then set up Fredlund for her second goal of the day and team leading tenth of the year in the 56th minute.
Gibson finished with six saves for Mount Holyoke. First year Jessica Pashos made one stop for Babson (10-6, 4-2 NEWMAC) before giving way to junior Emily Cohen, who played the final 11:50.
Mount Holyoke (6-6, 2-4 NEWMAC) will return to action on Tuesday, when it visits Clark University for a NEWMAC clash beginning at 7:00 p.m.
