2009 Field Hockey Slate Unveiled

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (July 22, 2009) - The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team recently unveiled its 2009 schedule. The Lyons will open their season at Simmons College on Saturday, September 12, and their first home match will be on Tuesday, September 22 versus Western New England College.

Twelfth year head coach Andy Whitcomb has scheduled 16 regular season contests. Of those, six will take place at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field. The complex will also serve as the venue for the 2009 NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championships, which are slated to take place on Saturday, November 21and Sunday, November 22.

In addition to taking on non-conference foes Nichols College, Amherst College, Hendrix College and Wesleyan University, Mount Holyoke will also take part in the Seven Sisters Championship at Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20.

The Lyons will kick off their eight match NEWMAC slate at Wheaton College on Saturday, September 26, and their Conference home opener will be on Saturday, October 3 versus Wellesley College. The team will put the finishing touches on their regular season at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 24.

Quarterfinal Round action of the NEWMAC Touranament will take place on Satuday, October 31. The Semifinals will be on Saturday, November 7, and the Championship will be on Sunday, November 8. Mount Holyoke has reached the NEWMAC Tournament in each of the last 11 years.
