Chase Earns National Recognition

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 22, 2009) – The awards continue to roll in for Mount Holyoke College field hockey player Tricia Chase after her impressive play during the week of October 12-18. Most recently, the sophomore was named to the womensfieldhockey.com national honor roll for Division III.

She was also named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Defensive Player of the Week and New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the same time period.

Chase lifted the Lyons to a perfect 3-0 week with her outstanding play at both ends of the field. The defender totaled one goal, one assist and one defensive save. She anchored a defensive unit that surrendered just one goal over three matches. Chase made a key defensive save at the end of regulation in Mount Holyoke's 2-1 overtime triumph over Springfield College on Tuesday. It was the Lyons first victory over the Pride since the 2004 season. The defender then assisted on senior midfielder Peggy Wefald's match winner in her team’s 2-0 victory over Babson College on Friday. She added a goal of her own in a 3-0 win over Hendrix College on Sunday.

For the season, Chase has totaled eight points on two goals and a squad best four assists. She is among the national leaders in defensive saves with seven. For her career, she has found the back of the cage three times and dished out five helpers.

Mount Holyoke (9-5, 3-3 NEWMAC) has racked up for consecutive victories and five in their last six outings. The Lyons will return to action this evening, when they visit Wesleyan University for a non-conference tilt beginning at 7:00 p.m.
