Lacrosse Falls Short to Redlands, 12-13

REDLANDS, Calif. (March 21, 2007) - The lacrosse team came-up short in their second game of the season, falling to Redlands, 12-13. First year Caroline Schnell led the way for MHC, netting four goals and one assist in the game. The loss drops the Lyons to a 1-1 overall record. Redlands improves to a 6-1 overall mark.

After an early score by Redlands, sophomore center Ava Gottschall knotted the score, 1-1, 2:23 into the first half. The Lyons rallied together after falling behind, 1-3, only eight minutes into the game. Caroline Schnell and Megan Wefald combined for two goals to tie the score at three apiece with 11:19 remaining in the first frame. MHC ended the first half ahead, 7-5.

The Lyons improved their lead to three, holding the 11-8 advantage on a goal by Danielle Babcock with16:58 remaining in the game. Schnell recorded the assist. Redlands fired back to tie the score at 12 apiece with six and a half minutes to go. Redlands' Mary Shepard netted the go-ahead goal at the 5:23 mark. The Lyons were unable to answer in the dwindling minutes, recording their first loss of the season.

Junior captain Danielle Babcock, first year Emmy Fontaine, and first year Megan Wefald all finished the game with two goals apiece. Katie Dahill and Gottschall each chipped in a score in the loss. Sophomore defender Ashley DeFlumere notched a team-high five ground balls and recorded two caused turnovers.

Senior captain Lisa Roberts put aside 13 shots, standing 60 minutes in goal. Roberts also recorded one ground ball.
