Babson Slips Past Soccer, 1-0Match Statistics
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 18, 2008) - Senior forward Kirsten Schmid recorded the lone goal of the afternoon, as Babson College edged New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College 1-0 this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Soccer Field. With their third straight win over the Lyons, the Beavers extended their unbeaten streak to five.
Scmid's goal came just 11:09 into the contest. After receiving a pass from sophomore forward Patty Pytlik, she lofted a shot into the upper left hand corner of the net from just inside the box. Her second tally of the season proved to be the winner.
Mount Holyoke fell despite a 7-6 advantage in the shot column. The Beavers finished with a 10-3 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Mccary cruised to her fourth shutout of the year, stopping shots five shots. Junior Elaine Harvey made two saves for the Lyons.
Both squads will resume their NEWMAC schedules on Tuesday. Mount Holyoke (4-10-0, 1-5-0 NEWMAC) will host Clark University at 7:00 p.m., while Babson (8-3-5, 3-0-3 NEWMAC) will travel to Wellesley College for a match beginning at 3:00 p.m.
