Connecticut Stifles Soccer, 3-0
NEW LONDON, Conn. (Sept. 17, 2009) – Led by sophomore forward Katelyn Driscoll, the Connecticut College women’s soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Jean C. Tempel Green. It was the Camels 16th straight victory over the Lyons, a streak dating back to 1986.
Both squads were held scoreless until the 38:39 mark, when Driscoll collected a loose ball in front and beat Mount Holyoke first year goalkeeper Caitlin Pacheco to put the hosts in front 1-0.
Connecticut College (2-1, 0-1 NESCAC) then found the net for a pair of goals in a span of 3:19 late in the second half to ice things. Driscoll set up senior forward Sharron Katz for the first in the 79th minute, and junior midfielder Chelsea Johnson tallied the second in the 83rd minute.
The Camels finished with advantages in both shots (18-8) and corner kick chances (5-1). Senior goalkeeper Jenna Ross posted five saves en route to the shutout. At the other end, Pacheco turned away eight shots in her collegiate debut.
Mount Holyoke (1-3, 0-0 NEWMAC) will return to action on Saturday, when it visits non-conference foe Elms College at 1:00 p.m.
