Squash Faces Tough Competition at Yale Round Robin

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (January 13, 2007) - Sophomore Pamela Anckermann, first year Menusha Hettiarachchi, and first year Laura Robinson all went 2-0 in Saturday's match-ups against Bates and Bowdoin.

In the first match against Bates, the Lyons were swept in three games in positions No. 5 through No. 9, to finish with an overall mark of 3-6. Laurian Lue Yen '10 fought to a fourth game at the No. 3 position, but was overcome by were opponent 1-9, to lose the match 1-3. Anckermann continued her dominance at the No. 1 position, defeating Kelsey Engman of Bates, 3-0 (9-6, 9-1, 9-2). Robinson demonstrated composure in her 3-0 victory at the No. 4 spot, allowed on six points from her opponent.

In their second match, the Lyons fell to Bowdoin by a score of 3-6 as well. Anckermann gave-up only a single point in the second game of the match, cruising to a 3-0 win. Hettiarachchi and Robinson sailed to victory almost as easily, sweeping their opponents in three games.

The two losses drops the Lyons to an overall mark of 5-3 to on the season. This weekend, January 20-21, MHC travels to Vassar College to compete in the annual Seven Sisters Tournament.
