SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Apr. 20, 2013) - Powered by victories in four of six singles and a pair of doubles wins, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team defeated Roger Williams by a 6-3 margin in the 2012-13 season finale. The Lyons conclude their season with an 11-9 mark, while the Hawks - who play at Smith at 2:30pm to finish their year - move to 10-9 overall.
MHC got things started early as the second doubles team of senior Nahrhee Han (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks) and junior Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar School) battled to an 8-3 victory over RWU first year Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and sophomore Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo./Kennett).
The third doubles pair of sophomore Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) and senior My-Linh Nguyen (Potomac, Md./Richard Montgomery) also cruised to victory, defeating first year Adriana Maconochie (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) and senior Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn./Rockville), 8-1.
In singles action, Han and Nguyen made it a clean sweep on their Senior Day as each won at first and sixth, respectively. Han took down senior Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) by a 6-0, 6-2 margin, while Nguyen defeated Hilton 6-3, 6-1.
Malik also had a solid effort, defeating Brown. After falling behind 2-6 in the first set, Malik battled back to win 6-1 and 10-5 in the super tie-breaker. First year Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Saddle River Day School) recorded the Lyons final point with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Maconochie.
