Track and Field Paces Field at Wesleyan
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (April 14, 2007) - The Lyons raced to four first place finishes at a non-scoring event hosted by Wesleyan College. Other competing institutions included: Connecticut College, Dutchess C.C., Eastern Connecticut, Mohawk Valley C.C., N.Y.U., SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Oswego, Pace, R.I.C., Vassar, Wesleyan, and Worcester State.
Junior Grace Zeigler continued her dominance in the long jump event, posting a distance of 15'09.5" (4.81m) to take first place. She bested the next jumper by four inches. Zeigler also tallied a seventh place finish in the 100 meter dash, recording a time of 13.68. Senior Malai Tananone raced to a top finish in the 400 meter hurdles, registering a time of 1:08.36.
Mount Holyoke's two other blue ribbon finishes were tallied in the throwing events. Returning to full form, senior Andi Villasenor recorded a distance of 37'10.75" (11.55m) in the shot put. Stephanie Bucci of RIC finished 2'6" behind Villasenor. Classmate Gretchen Sminkey also had a strong performance at Wesleyan, tallying a first place finish in the Discus Throw. Sminkey launched the discus 107'01" (32.65m). Sminkey also took third place in the Hammer Throw, registering a distance of 117'03" (35.74m).
MHC athletes also recorded five new personal records. First year Hillary Haber notched a PR in the Javelin with a distance of 88'08" (27.03m). Also in the throwing events, senior Liz Siviski earned a PR in the shot put (22'01", 6.73m). In the 200 meter dash, Natasha Payes '10 (29.74) and Jenn Bourdeau '08 (30.93) finished with new personal records. With a time of 5:35.39, distance runner Kiri-Lin McGregor '09 also earned a PR.
Next weekend, the Track and Field team travels to Brunswick, Maine to compete in the Aloha Relays hosted by Bowdoin.
