Indoor Track & Field Competes in Smith Winter Classic
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Dec. 8, 2007) - Several members of the Mount Holyoke College women's indoor track and field team posted outstanding individual performances at the non-scoring Smith College Winter Classic today. Leading the way for the Lyons was senior Halaina Demba (Harvard, Mass./Bromfield), who took top honors in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:12.06.Senior Grace Zeigler (Oak Hill, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished third in the long jump (4.86 meters), while classmates Caroline Gillaspie (Athens, N.Y./Coxsackie-Athens) and Charisse Pickron (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) earned fourth place finishes in the high jump (4'4") and shot put (30'11"), respectively.
First year Tracy Etkins established a new personal record with her time of 8.15 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Meanwhile, classmate Amanda Noumoff completed the 200-meter dash in 29.72 seconds to take seventh place overall.
Rounding things out for the Lyons was sophomore Crystal Boateng, who recorded an eight place showing in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 1:06.19 was more than six seconds faster than per previous personal record. It was also the best finish for a Mount Holyoke runner in the event this season.
Mount Holyoke will be off until Friday, January 11, 2008, when it competes in the Dartmouth College Relays. The event is scheduled to conclude the following day.
