Wheaton Shuts Down Volleyball, 3-0Match Statistics
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 14, 2008) - The Wheaton College women's volleyball team topped host Mount Holyoke College 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-22) this evening at the Mildred Howard Gymnasium. It was the guest's first victory over a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe this season.
Leading the way for Wheaton was sophomore setter Becca Rose, who accumulated 30 assists and three service aces. Junior middle hitter Lauren Kraus tallied ten kills and three aces, while first year outside hitter Miranda Howitt recorded nine kills. Rounding things out for the guests was first year defensive specialist Emily Davisson, who totaled 17 digs.
Senior outside hitter Chelsea Tracy registered eight kills, six digs and four blocks to pace Mount Holyoke. Classmate Amanda Trask posted four kills and nine digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Rosa Marruffo chipped in with three kills and ten digs. Sophomore setter Kateryna Kuc finished with 13 assists for the home team.
Mount Holyoke (4-7, 0-6 NEWMAC) will take the court again on Saturday, when it competes in the LEC / NEWMAC Challenge at Keene State College. After facing off against the host Owls at noon, the Lyons will take on Plymouth State University at 2:30 p.m. Wheaton (9-16, 1-5 NEWMAC) is slated to host Western Connecticut State University on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
