Volleyball Participates in LEC/NEWMAC ChallengeKEENE, N.H. (Oct. 18, 2008) - The Mount Holyoke College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks at the inaugural Little East Conference / New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Challenge on Saturday at Spaulding Gymnasium. After falling to host Keene State College, the Lyons were defeated by Plymouth State University.
In its first contest of the afternoon, Mount Holyoke was blanked 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-19) by Keene State. The Lyons were paced by senior outside hitter Chelsea Tracy, who tallied six kills, ten digs and four blocks. Sophomore setter Kateryna Kuc collected nine assists and 11 digs, while senior right side hitter Amanda Trask and sophomore defensive specialist Rosa Marruffo posted four kills apiece. Marruffo also chipped in with three service aces and five digs.
Mount Holyoke was downed 3-0 (25-9, 25-4, 25-15) by Plymouth State in its second match of the day. Tracy finished with five kills and two blocks, while Kuc added ten assists. Trask amassed three kills and six digs. Meanwhile, Marruffo registered 12 digs.
The Lyons (4-9, 0-6 NEWMAC) will return to action on Tuesday, when they visit the Coast Guard Academy for a NEWMAC clash beginning at 7:00 p.m.
