Neumuth, Jia lead Lyons on second day of IHSA Nationals

MILL SPRING, N.C. -- Junior Grace Neumuth and sophomore Peixi Jia helped the Mount Holyoke equestrian team score five team points Saturday at IHSA Nationals, putting the Lyons in a three-way tie for 13th place heading into the final day of competition.

The first rider in the ring was first-year Sophia Bull (Lumberton, N.J.), riding Archie, provided by the University of Lynchburg for Team Intermediate Fences. After a wonderful round, Bull received an honorable mention in a very competitive group of riders.

Next up, Neumuth (Marlborough, Conn.) went into the ring for Team Limit Fences aboard Ollie, provided by the University of Lynchburg. Neumuth rode to a score of 80, placing fifth and adding five points to the team score.

After Flat schooling, Jia (Dongguan, China) went into the ring for Team Introductory riding Sid, provided by Long Island University. Jia placed 9th and added 1 point to the overall score.

The last rider of the day was first-year Nory van Rhyn (Montclair, N.J.) in Team Novice riding Revel, provided by Skidmore College. She placed just out of the ribbons in a group of competitive riders and received an honorable mention.

The final day of IHSA Nationals begins at 8:45am on Sunday.
