SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 17, 2012) - The 15th Annual Mount Holyoke College Friends of Athletics Golf Tournament, which benefits Lyons Athletics, took place on September 10 at The Orchards. The event, which featured over 100 golfers saw a number of exciting finishes, including a match of cards victory in the women’s division.
Taking first place on the women’s side, which ended in a tie with a score of 69, was the foursome of Betty Thurston, Ginger Goldsbury, Amanda Watlington and Audry Longo ’05. Finishing in second place was the group of Pat Griffin, Kathy Neal, Judy Placek and Ginny Evans.
In the men’s division, the foursome of Ken Pierce, Steve Carpenter, Sean Delaney and Jim Dalymple took top honors with a score of 60. Second place was awarded to Alan Foy, Doug Vanderpoel, Robert Donnelly and Peter Drew, who finished a stroke back with a 61.
The mixed division saw the foursome of John Tabb, Kelly Karalekis, Debbie Chappell and Bill Fallon post a 66 for victory, while Chuck Ramsay, Jane Zimmy ’74, Marshall Collins and Liz Gross ’79 were the runners-up with a score of 69.
The event also featured several contests at various holes. D. Thorpe (4’6”) and Deb Chappell (8’10”) were the closest-to-the-pin winners on holes #17 and #7, respectively, while the longest drive winners were Kevin Burns on hole #8 and Betty Thurston on hole #14.
