Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 22nd

RIDING

Mount Holyoke remains idle until Nationals, which will take place from May 2-5 in Harrisburg, Pa., at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. The Lyons will send a team of eight riders and five individuals to this year's event.

TRACK & FIELD

MHC headed to Maine last weekend to compete at the Aloha Relays, hosted by Bowdoin. The Lyons finished fifth overall at the meet, which was highlighted by two first-place finishes from first year Camille Coklow, who won the 100 and 200-meter dash events. The squad is back in action on Saturday when it competes at the 2013 NEWMAC Championships. This year's meet will take place at Springfield College beginning at 10:30am.

 LACROSSE

The Lyons went 2-0 last week, defeating Smith (17-6) and Babson (9-7) to secure the second-seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Playoffs. First year Julia Bell led the offensive charge last week, tallying eight goals with four assists for 12 points.

Mount Holyoke (11-3; 4-2 NEWMAC) returns to action on Saturday when it heads to Wheaton to compete in the NEWMAC Tournament. The Lyons, who are the second-seed, will face the yet-to-be determined third-seed at 2:30pm. The winner's of both games on Saturday will play for the NEWMAC Championship title on Sunday at 1pm.

CREW

Mount Holyoke headed back to Lake Quinsigamond last weekend to compete in the 2013 NEWMAC Championships. The Lyons' first varsity eight boat finished sixth overall as sophomore Hannah Arbach and junior Cara Murphy were named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Varsity Team. Additionally, first year Ashley Avila was an All-Conference Novice Team selection.

The Lyons return to action on May 4 when they compete in the New England Rowing Championships, hosted on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.

TENNIS

The Lyons (11-9) concluded their season schedule last week with a 6-3 victory over Roger Williams at the MHC Tennis Courts. Leading the way were seniors My-Linh Nguyen and Nahrhee Han, who played in their final career matches and also both won in their respective singles flights. 

GOLF

The Lyons golf team was back on the links last weekend at the Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst. MHC was paced by sophomore Madi Mendiola, who finished 13th overall in the field of 64 golfers. 

Mount Holyoke will play its final match of the season this weekend, traveling to Williamstown, Mass., to play in the Williams College Spring Invitational. Action begins on Saturday and runs through Sunday.
