SOCCER
Mount Holyoke fell to #7 Amherst (9-0) and NEWMAC-rival Smith (3-0) last week. Sophomore netminder Mackenzie Randall (Harwinton, Conn.) posted a combined 20 saves over the two contests, including 13 against the nationally-ranked Lord Jeffs. The Lyons (0-4-1; 0-1-0 NEWMAC) return to the pitch on Tuesday in a 4pm match against Western New England. The squad wraps-up the week with a 1pm conference match against Coast Guard Academy on Sunday.

FIELD HOCKEY
The Lyons lost on the road at #11 Amherst (8-1), but battled back to defeat Smith (9-1) in the NEWMAC opener for both teams. MHC was led by senior Angelica Pascual (Lawrence, Mass.) and sophomore Kirsten Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.), both of whom tallied four goals apiece in the win over the Pioneers. Mount Holyoke (2-1; 1-0 NEWMAC) is back in action on Tuesday for their only contest of the week, a 7pm game at Western New England University.
TENNIS
In their only match of the week, tennis rallied for a 5-4 victory over Wheaton in the NEWMAC opener for both squads. Junior Eman Malik’s (Karachi, Pakistan) gutsy performance at fourth singles sealed the win for the Lyons as she posted a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win. It marked Mount Holyoke’s first win over Wheaton in the last six matches. The Lyons (2-1; 1-0 NEWMAC) return to the courts on Saturday with a match at conference-rival, MIT at 1pm.
VOLLEYBALL
The Lyons suffered a pair of tough NEWMAC losses last week, falling 3-0 to both Wellesley and Clark. Both matches were incredibly close as five of the six sets were decided by a two-point differential. Junior Martina Kneifel (Oro Valley, Ariz.) posted 20 kills and 18 digs over the two matches, including a double-double of 16 and 12, respectively in Saturday’s match at Clark.
Mount Holyoke (1-3; 0-2 NEWMAC) is back on the court on Tuesday for a NEWMAC contest at WPI at 7pm. The Lyons then return to their home court on Saturday, hosting a tri-match at Mildred Howard Gymnasium. MHC takes on Elms at 11am and then faces Connecticut College at 3pm. The middle game is set to begin at 1pm between Elms and Connecticut College.
CROSS COUNTRY
Mount Holyoke finished 16th of 38 teams at the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational last week. The Lyons were paced for the second straight week by first year Elizabeth DeLeon (Boise, Idaho), who was 30th overall in a field of 293 runners with a time of 19:18. MHC is idle this week, but returns to the course on September 29th at the Keene State College Invitational at 11am.
GOLF
The Lyons opened their 2012-13 campaign at the NYU Invitational last week, finishing 10th overall in the 13-team field. Mount Holyoke was paced by sophomore Madi Mendiola (San Diego, Calif.), who was sixth overall in the event with a combined score of 157. As a team, the Lyons shot a combined 741 at the invite. The squad returns to the links this weekend when it hosts the 2012 Mount Holyoke Invitational at The Orchards on Saturday and Sunday. Start time will be 8am both days.
RIDING
The Lyons open their 2012-13 season on Saturday at the Preseason Tournament of Champions, hosted by Goucher College in Baltimore, Md. Led by 29th-year head coach C.J. Law, Mount Holyoke looks to return to the top of the national stage after finishing fourth overall at last year’s IHSA National Championships.
