Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Nov. 5th

FIELD HOCKEY

The Lyons fell to Wellesley (3-2) in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals last week. Senior Angelica Pascual (Lawrence, Mass.) and first year Sarah LaQuerre (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) tallied the MHC goals. Mount Holyoke concluded its season in the loss, finishing the season with a 7-10 record and a 2-6 mark in conference play.

CROSS COUNTRY

Mount Holyoke was idle last week, but is back on the course on Saturday at the NCAA Regional Championships, hosted by Westfield State at 12pm.

RIDING

The equestrian team continued its solid season on Saturday, finishing second of eight teams at the Amherst Horse Show. The Lyons saw senior Morgan Cooley (Plymouth, Mass.) earn overall high point rider honors. Additionally, she also qualified for Regionals with her victory in novice fences.  MHC returns to action on November 17 when it hosts the Mount Holyoke Horse Show at the Equestrian Center.

SWIMMING & DIVING

Led by 15th-year head coach Dave Allen, the Lyons took to the water for the first time in 2012-13 on Saturday at the non-scoring Betty Spears Relays, hosted by Wellesley. Mount Holyoke saw a number of strong performances on the day, including first year Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.), who eclipsed two school records in her collegiate debut, including one mark that had stood since 1986. The Lyons are back in the water on Wednesday in a 5pm dual meet at Westfield State. MHC then hosts Assumption on Friday at 5pm at the Mount Holyoke Natatorium.
