SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Feb. 2, 2013) - The Mount Holyoke College
squash team captured its seventh consecutive Seven Sisters
Championship today at the MHC Squash Courts. After battling to 9-0
and 5-4 victories against Smith College and Wellesley College, the
Lyons shutout Vassar College to secure the crown. MHC entered the
weekend ranked 20th in the most recent CSA National Rankings.
Mount Holyoke was followed in the final standings by 26th-ranked
Wellesley (2-1), 33rd-ranked Vassar (1-2) and 36th-ranked Smith
(0-3). Juniors Randima
Ranaweera and Shaheen Madraswala, along with senior
Kathryn Brummer represented the Lyons
on the All-Tournament Team. Joining the trio was Rosemary O'Connor
and Gabriella Wynne from Wellesley, Nancy Zhang and Alex Bowditch
from Vassar and Jacqueline Zhou from Smith.
There were a number of strong performances throughout the day as
several achieved a perfect 3-0 record on the day. Mount Holyoke saw
four players record a perfect mark, including Ranaweera, first year
Sherouk Khefagy, Madraswala and
Brummer. For Wellesley, Alexandra Spiliakos and Haley Vasquez both
went undefeated on the day.
The Lyons (8-7) are back in action on Wednesday when they host
16th-ranked Amherst at 6pm. Wellesley (6-13) hosts 25th-ranked
Tufts on Tuesday at 7pm, while Vassar (6-8) and Smith are idle till
next Friday, when they compete at the Division III Nationals,
hosted by Bowdoin.
