Swimming and Diving Takes Third at RegisComplete Results
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Nov. 15, 2008) - Led by junior Lindsay Schonborn the Mount Holyoke College women's swimming and diving team grabbed third place at the two day Regis College Invitational. The University of New England took home top honors with 748 points, and Westfield State College collected second with 721 points. Mount Holyoke finished with 591 points. Rounding out the seven team field were Simmons College (570), Husson College (240), Wheelock College (160) and Regis (100).
Schonborn paced the Lyons with three first place finishes and one second place showing. The junior ended the day tied for high point honors with New England's Ali Wagner and Sara Shea. She teamed with sophomore Michelle Kroll, junior Shannon Sutherland and first year Sarah Rooney to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.03. Schonborn's other first place finishes came in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.92) and the 50-yard breaststroke (33.00). She nabbed second place honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.25).
Rooney also enjoyed a solid day for Mount Holyoke. In addition to her relay win, she notched second place in the 100-yard individual medley (1:08.95) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.93).
Kroll teamed with first year Lydia Bowers, sophomore Miki Yoshida and senior Lisa Nash to collect second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:48.14). She also finished second in the 50-yard backstroke (31.34).
Bowers chipped in with third place results in the 100-yard freestyle (59.08) and the 50-yard freestyle (26.62).
Mount Holyoke (1-1) will return to action on Wednesday, when it visits Westfield State for a dual match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
