NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Two student-athletes entered the Mount Holyoke track and field program's all-time top-10 performance list as the Lyons opened the 2024-25 indoor season Saturday at the Mary Grinaker Invitational at Smith College.
Mount Holyoke recorded several impressive marks at the non-scoring meet, including three first-place performances by sophomore Ioanna Tsoni (Athens, Greece).
First-year Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) took first place among eight competitors in the 400 meters in a time of 1:01.16, immediately making her the fourth-fastest Lyon all-time in the event.
In the weight throw, junior Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) placed second among eight competitors at a personal-best 11.09 meters. Tetzlaff vaulted into ninth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time top 10 list in the event.
Other top-four event showings by the Lyons included:
- Tsoni placed first in the long jump (5.29 meters/17'4.25"), first in the 60 hurdles (9.39 seconds), and first among eight competitors in the 60 meters (8.15 seconds in finals, 8.14 in prelims). Tsoni qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the long jump.
- Senior Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) took first place in the high jump (1.37 meters), and third in long jump (4.68 meters/15'4.25").
- Sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) finished third in the 400 meters (1.06.22).
- Senior Lize Brown (New London, Conn.) placed third in the shot put (9.04 meters).
- Sophomore Fannie Fouron (North Easton, Mass.) took fourth place in the shot put (8.63 meters).
Mount Holyoke will resume the indoor meet season at the Branwent Smith-King Invitational at Tufts University on Jan. 18.
