NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mount Holyoke track and field team finished in 18th place among 39 scoring teams at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships Saturday at Coast Guard, with three All-New England performances on the meet's second day.
Sophomore Ioanna Tsoni (Athens, Greece) broke her own team record in the triple jump by 19 centimeters, with a top effort of 11.76 meters (38'7") recorded on her final attempt, to place third out of 28 competitors in the event and score six team points.
Tsoni also scored two points in the 100 hurdles, taking seventh place in the finals in 15.06 seconds. She tied with Southern Maine's Zoe Barnes as the highest-scoring athlete of the meet, with 18 points.
The Lyons scored one final point with an eighth-place finish in the 4x800 relay. Senior Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.), first-year Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.), sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.), and senior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) finished in 9:50.23, Mount Holyoke's third-best time ever in the race.
Mount Holyoke finished the meet with 19 points, edging Bates by a point for 18th place.
Other Saturday highlights for Mount Holyoke included:
- Junior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii), who owned the team triple jump record to start the outdoor season, took 11th place in the event with a top effort of 11.19 meters (36'8.5").
- Mount Holyoke's 4x100 relay team of Robinson, Tsoni, senior Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) and Rimando took 12th place with a time of 49.89 seconds.
- Robinson placed 13th in the 400 hurdles (1:08.27).
- Beaver ran a season-best time of 2:20.27 in the 800 meters to take 16th place.
Mount Holyoke competes at the NEICAAA Championships, also known as Open New Englands, May 9-10 at nearby UMass-Amherst.
